Carriageworks is the largest multi-arts centre in Australia. They commission Australian and International artists to make monumental new work that intersects with contemporary ideas. Reflecting the diverse communities of urban Sydney, the artist-led program is ambitious, radical and always inclusive.
Over 2019 the Carriageworks Program will support more than 900 artists across 86 projects, including 7 world premieres, 25 international works and 36 new Australian commissions. Projects range from large-scale installations to experimental dance, music and theatre, with a continuing emphasis on Indigenous artists. Highlights include: The National, New Australian Art; Back to Back Theatre; Mike Parr’s The Eternal Opening; Oscar and Lucinda by Sydney Chamber Opera; Open Frame by Room40; the Carriageworks Night Market; and FKA twigs for Vivid Sydney.
Carriageworks is the home of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia Weekend Edition, from May 12 to May 18.
